Jersey Shore Reality Check

If you live in the U.S. you may have noticed all the attention New Jersey has been getting on the so-called “reality” TV shows. Last time I checked, there was MTV’s Jersey Shore, Bravo’s NJ Housewives, Style Channel’s Jerseylicious and I just saw a new one advertised on the Oxygen network called Jersey Couture. Enough already! Being a Jersey girl myself I think I can say that not one of them comes close to depicting the real New Jersey. Maybe I shouldn’t let out the big secret that most of New Jersey isn’t really like that.

The best thing about New Jersey in my opinion is the Jersey Shore. Each beach does have it’s own personality. I love the quiet, family areas with sand dunes instead of boardwalks, where you can hear the seagulls instead of carnival music. There are plenty of beautiful places to visit at the Jersey Shore.

I found out about the Bungalow Hotel at the Jersey Shore from Sixx Design. They helped design this gorgeous boutique hotel. Take a peek into the other side of New Jersey…

More Overnight Design

Although many of us may never stay in a luxurious hotel like The Surrey in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, there are many design ideas that we can replicate on a smaller scale in our own homes. Lauren Rottet is the designer behind the recent renovation of this infamous address. Her pallete of shades of grey & black paired with her marriage of traditional with modern created a sophisticated and unique look throughout the hotel. Check it out!

Two ideas to steal above. Separate living and dining with furniture placement. The console table behind the couch is an easy way to make it work. Be creative with side tables. The silver tree stump is a fun place to put your drink.

Keep things in scale. The large, white lamp helps balance the large upholstered headboard.

Let your towels be part of your display. Add monogram towels for a unique touch.

Love the quilted wall above. Maybe a great focal wall in a bedroom.

Take advantage of wall cavaties when renovating to make the most of your space for storage and display.

Add a splash of color with 1 piece in the room. Use a whimsy centerpiece. Frame enlarged typography for easy art.

Not the Marriott

It is quite unusual to have an automaker, artists and a hotel work together on one project but that is exactly what happened in the development of Hotel FOX. Volkswagen was anticipating a lot of media coverage for a new launch a few years back and wanted to have a nice place for journalists to stay. They decided to take over a basic hotel in Copenhagen and transform it into something hip & different.

So with 21 international artists on board, the design of Hotel FOX was created boasting 61 very unique rooms. Here is a peek…
